Oakland Pitcher Gets August's Rookie Trophy
Tuesday, September 1st , 2111
Though he's a bit older than your typical rookie, 31-year-old Jesus Rivera, a starter for Oakland, has proven that he can really pitch in the American League with this past month. For his strong effort, he was given the Rookie of the Month Award today.
In August Rivera rang up a fine 2-0 record. He made 0 starts, logged 12 strikeouts in 12.2 innings, 2.13 ERA and only allowed opposing hitters to hit .186 against him.
Pretty fair pitching for the old rookie.
This year, Rivera has 26 saves. In 51 relief appearances he has hurled 52.2 innings, fanned 60 and given up 34 walks with a 5-7 record. The Oakland reliever has recorded a 2.91 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .230 when he is in the game.
