Pirates Kawahara and Nationals Rios Suspended for Fight Tuesday, August 28th , 2108 Yesterday at Nationals Park Tadashi Kawahara and Mike Rios got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Kawahara will have to sit out 3 while Rios would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This year, Kawahara is batting .261 with 10 home runs. In 27 starts this season, Rios has compiled a 8-11 record and a 4.90 ERA. |
