Machado on Fire, 5-for-5 Against Colorado Thursday, September 6th , 2108 Even as a kid, Gerardo Machado said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Great American Ball Park, Machado showed how well he learned that lesson. The 31-year-old third baseman had 5 hits in 5 at-bats for the Cincinnati Reds, helping his team knock off the Colorado Rockies by a score of 7-1. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did." Gerardo Machado hit a solo-shot off Ricky Acosta in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.
