Hestermann Rockets 3 HR Against Seattle Friday, October 3rd , 2098 His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Jeff Hestermann swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Safeco Field, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the Seattle Mariners were better. The New York Mets couldn't capitalize on the big game from Hestermann and dropped the contest 12-8. The mood in the Mets clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Mariners to spoil the day for Hestermann. "Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," New York manager Rodney Smith said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level." In addition to the homers, Hestermann collected 5 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the New York second baseman told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3." Jeff Hestermann hit a two-run home run off Armando Baisa in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Luis Reyes in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Brad Thomas in the 5th and grounded out in the 7th. This season Hestermann is batting .224 with 123 hits, 23 home runs, 69 RBIs, .285 OBP and has scored 66 runs. |
