20-Game Hitting Streak for Velarde Friday, July 3rd, 2054 Jose Velarde of the Cincinnati Reds tagged 1 hit in today's 9-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers at Great American Ball Park to run his hitting streak to 20 straight games. "I realize it's unlikely to have a 20-game streak and not have a couple losses mixed in," he said later. "But it still takes the fun out of it." Jose Velarde grounded out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, struck out in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th. So far this year Velarde has hit .305 with 20 home runs, 54 RBIs and 46 runs scored. |
