Breitbach and Espinal Suspended for Free-for-All Saturday, May 1st, 2055 Yesterday at Miller Park Chad Breitbach and Michael Espinal got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Breitbach will have to sit out 2 while Espinal would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Breitbach has a .273 average and a .339 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 27 hits, 4 home runs and driven in 9 runs. So far this season Espinal has a record of 3-0 with 30 strikeouts and 8 walks in 34 innings and a 3.18 ERA. |
