A Day for the Record Books: Martinez Hits 4 HR Tuesday, July 30th , 2080 Hitting a single home run is a tough task. Hitting two in a game is impressive. Hitting three is remarkable. Anything beyond that is borderline unbelievable -- yet that's what Gil Martinez did today in the 11-3 Southern Maryland Blue Crabs victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters. Martinez went 4-for-5 with 4 home runs and drove in 7 runs in a once-in-a-lifetime feat that the opposing manager later labeled "impossible." "I don't believe it really happened," Skeeters manager Casey Dill joked to BNN reporters afterward. "I don't ever enjoy losing a game, but this kid was special today. I have never seen a guy hit 4 in a game before. I didn't enjoy it, but it was special." Gil Martinez hit a two-run home run off Juan Maldonado in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Juan Maldonado in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Juan Maldonado in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Danny Lucio in the 6th and struck out in the 8th. Martinez is currently batting .277 with 23 home runs, 58 RBIs and 51 runs scored. He has 106 hits in 382 at-bats. |
