Lampton Bangs Out 5 Base Hits Saturday, July 21st , 2068 Tucson third baseman Austin Lampton went down swinging at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium today, knocking out 5 hits even as his Saguaros fell, 21-15. "It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Lampton said after his 5-for-5 performance against the White Sands Pupfish. "No offense meant to White Sands, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well." After the game, his manager elaborated on the third baseman's improvements, saying Lampton spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball. "That's what I'm trying to do," Lampton agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it." Austin Lampton singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Jorge Bueno in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Jorge Bueno in the 5th, walked in a run in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Rafael Romo in the 7th and singled in the 8th. Lampton is currently batting .287 with 17 home runs and 48 RBIs. |
