Rios Spins No-Hitter Against Martinez Wednesday, July 6th, 2067 Ernesto Rios really did a number on the Martinez Mackerel at Kokernot Field today -- and that number was zero. The Alpine Cowboys hurler had what he later called "one of the best moments of my life," tossing a no-hitter and leading the Cowboys to victory, 1-0. "This is something special," Rios said. "I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They're everywhere you look." The left-hander faced only 28 batters in the no-hit gem, struck out 11 and walked 0. "We simply couldn't get any wood on the ball," Martinez manager Marco JAnchez said when asked about the epic performance. "Rios was brilliant out there. He certainly had our number." This year in 10 starts, Rios has recorded 3 wins and absorbed no losses. He has pitched 71 innings, allowed 23 hits, struck out 97 and has a 1.27 ERA. |
