Wild on to Championship Series Wednesday, September 5th , 2068 The New Hampshire Wild were counting on Ruben Ortega to put forward a strong performance in the Wild Card Single Elimination Round 1 at Memorial Field. He certainly delivered. With a solid 7 innings, Ortega earned MVP honors as his team beat the Puerto Rico Islanders 3-2 to advance to the Championship Series. "I tried to just think of it as any other game," said the New Hampshire starter. "But if we lose, we go home and I'd be lying if I said that didn't keep crossing my mind. That's motivation, for sure." Ortega also had 14 strikeouts, while allowing 2 hits, 1 walk and no runs. While he wasn't willing to concede that the Wild are a superior team overall, Puerto Rico manager Andy Mair gave credit to New Hampshire for putting their best foot forward in a one-game format. "They beat us straight up, that's all there is to it," he said. The New Hampshire Wild will play against the Plattsburgh Thunderbirds in the next round. Plattsburgh won their series against the Saranac Lake Surge. The Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Wild Card Single Elimination Round 1 finishes. |
