Chavez This Year's Best Rookie Friday, September 21st , 2068 For several weeks the rumor mill had it that the 2068 Rookie of the Year Award winner was a foregone conclusion and the trophy would go to Plattsburgh right fielder, Ricardo Chavez. It is no longer a rumor -- the Empire Professional Baseball League made it official today. Chavez won the award by hitting .394 and collecting 89 hits, 3 home runs, 24 RBIs and 8 walks. He scored 35 runs and posted a .424 on-base percentage. He received 6 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Sean Clay of the Saranac Lake Surge finished second in voting, while John Lopez of the Puerto Rico Islanders finished third.
