Tight Tilt Goes to Lugnuts, 4-3
|
The Lansing Lugnuts topped the West Michigan Whitecaps, 4-3, at Cooley Law School Stadium. Lansing first baseman Steve Porter was a spark plug for the offense. He went 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles. The win went to Alvaro Garcia in relief, making him now 11-6. Jesus Rayas took the loss for West Michigan. Jonathan Moody got the save, the 9th for him this season.
An inflection point occurred with no one out in the bottom of the third. That's when Lugnuts right fielder Russ Durst hit a fastball from Jesus Rayas for a 2-run single. Just like that, Lansing was up, 3-2.
"I was a little disappointed," said West Michigan manager Ben King. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
The Whitecaps, now 43-78, have lost 4 straight.
