The Lansing Lugnuts defeated the South Bend Cubs, 4-3, in Midwest League action at Cooley Law School Stadium. Lansing pitcher Kevin Brannon had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Brannon, now 15-1. He tossed 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Lansing has run its win streak to 5 in a row.

The Lugnuts got a big at-bat from first baseman Brandon Garvin. For the game, Garvin went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Lansing a 3-2 lead.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Lansing manager Osamu Nakao.
