Multi-HR Day for Navarro as Kernels Overpower Chiefs, 6-5
|
Jose Navarro helped his team muscle past the Peoria Chiefs, 6-5. In the game, the Cedar Rapids designated hitter hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Willie de Jesus notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 4.2 innings. His record now sits at 1-1. The Kernels move to 54-74 with the win, while the Chiefs drop to 87-41.
Navarro had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 2-2 fastball from Jonathan Saiz, he banged a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the Kernels a 6-5 lead. It was the 10th home run of the year for Navarro.
"I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," Navarro told a Cedar Rapids Daily reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today."
