Kernels Claim 1-0 Triumph
|
In a low-scoring contest, Cedar Rapids pitcher Matt Doering was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 1-0 win. Doering, the winner, moves to 11-5. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 3 walks. The Kernels raised their record to 76-52.
The Kernels got a big at-bat from right fielder John Baker. For the game, Baker went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. In the top of the fourth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Cedar Rapids a 1-0 lead.
"I feel honored to be a part of this team," said Doering.
