Big Day by Ruiz Ignites Cubs Win

2108 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
The South Bend Cubs beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 6-4, at Bowling Green Ballpark. Wilson Ruiz starred for South Bend. He went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. South Bend reliever Jose Camacho picked up the win, raising his record to 7-10. Mark Burrell was tagged with the loss.
South Bend used the timely hitting of Brian Buell to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cubs on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We haven't been playing to the level we want to play," said Bowling Green manager Francisco Pereyra.
The Cubs go to 78-53, putting them second in the Eastern Division.
