Richmond pitcher Jason Cranford had a large part in his team beating the Trenton Thunder, 5-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 7 innings, Cranford surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. Mike Billingsley closed it out for Richmond, earning his 2nd save.
The Flying Squirrels got a big at-bat from designated hitter Roland Meyer. For the game, Meyer went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Richmond a 3-0 lead.
"I think we all put in a good day's work," said Cranford.
The Flying Squirrels have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 5th win in 18 games.
