Hickory pitcher Gary Ayala had a large part in his team subduing the Greenville Drive, 7-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Hickory has a record of 4-2.

Hickory used a clutch at-bat from Mike Wells to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Crawdads ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"I pretty much put my pitches where I wanted to," said Ayala.
