Delmarva Falters Again, Loses, 5-4, to Columbia
|
The Columbia Fireflies did just enough to sneak past the Delmarva Shorebirds, 5-4, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Columbia pitcher Tim Albanese, in particular, had a standout performance. Albanese picked up the win for Columbia, going 7 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 1-1. The Shorebirds, now 2-10, continue their inauspicious start.
Columbia used the timely hitting of Ethan Stokes to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Fireflies on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In comments to the Columbia Gazette, Stokes insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
