The Columbia Fireflies knocked off the Hickory Crawdads, 7-5, in South Atlantic League action at Spirit Communications Park. Columbia pitcher and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native Fernando Tarango had an outstanding performance. Tarango, now 1-1, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Bert Reed closed the door for Columbia, picking up his 6th save of the year.

With two out in the bottom of the fourth, John Lange put Columbia in front, 3-2, with a run-scoring single. The Fireflies went on to win the ballgame.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Lange. "You've got to get results."

The loss drops Hickory to 11-5.
