Intimidators Down Grasshoppers, 9-5
|
Kannapolis registered a win at CMC-NorthEast Stadium by beating the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 9-5. Pitcher Sam Wells was one reason why the Intimidators triumphed. Wells yielded 3 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 11. His record improves to 1-0. Chris Van Slyke picked up the save for Kannapolis, his 1st of the year.
Had Lou Gormley not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Gormley hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Intimidators.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Gormley told the Kannapolis Chronicle.
Greensboro, with the loss, is 5-13.
