Tourists Hand Hickory 3-1 Loss
|
Asheville pitcher Jay Kelleher had a large part in his team subduing the Hickory Crawdads, 3-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Kelleher yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-0. Paul Covey earned the save for Asheville, his 1st.
Bobby Gardner, who is tied for 10th in the SAL in total bases with 40, had a direct impact on the outcome. Gardner contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fourth inning to put Asheville up, 1-0.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Gardner.
With the loss, Hickory falls to 13-11.
