Spirit Communications Park hosted a real pitchers' duel.

In a low-scoring tilt between the Delmarva Shorebirds and the Columbia Fireflies, 23-year old right-handed pitcher Rich Baker was the difference-maker. The Delmarva right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Jose Marques snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 2 innings. He's now 2-2 on the season.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Tim Ferguson came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Columbia pitcher Jediah Childers, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Delmarva on top, 2-1.

"Good ballgame," said Columbia manager Hyun-wook Choi. "But we came up on the short end."

The hot start continues for the defending champion Shorebirds. This was their 17th win in 25 games.
