Fireflies Continue Skid, Thanks to Johnson, Drive
|
The Greenville Drive topped the Columbia Fireflies, 8-2, at Fluor Field at the West End. Greenville third baseman Zach Johnson was a spark plug for the offense. He was 2 for 2 with a triple and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Brett Hinders earned the win for Greenville. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 3-0. The Fireflies fall to 10-17 and continue their lackluster start to the 2111 season.
Johnson contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing triple, for Greenville in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-0, Johnson took a fastball from Josh Scott and stroked the triple to left. His 1st triple of the season allowed the Drive to leap in front, 3-2.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Johnson told the Greenville Citizen. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
