Vasquez Gets 4-0 Shutout
Melvin Vasquez of the Hagerstown Suns was on top of his game.

The 22-year-old tantalized the Greenville Drive with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.

"He had the changeup working," Greenville manager Joey Many said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Hagerstown hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 4 hits in his complete-game effort.

Vasquez told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

So far this season, Vasquez has compiled a 4-1 record with a 1.26 ERA.
