Fans watched the Charleston RiverDogs and the Columbia Fireflies fight to the finish.

Columbia got a decent performance from pitcher Alex Cuellar, but it wasn't enough to beat the Charleston RiverDogs. Charleston won the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park contest, 3-2. Cuellar threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Phil Martel wrapped it up, recording his 3rd save.

Jimmy Kiger had a big 2-run home run for the RiverDogs in the bottom of the second inning. With Charleston leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a slider from 20-year old left-handed pitcher Alex Cuellar and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the RiverDogs on top, 3-0.

"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said RiverDogs manager Brandon Lacey.

Charleston now sits at 11-18, while Columbia falls to 17-12.
