GreenJackets Get Better of Braves, 4-2
|
The Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Rome Braves, 4-2, in South Atlantic League action at Lake Olmstead Stadium. Augusta pitcher Bryan Townsend had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Townsend, now 1-3. He tossed 5 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 3. Ivan Sandoval, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.
Trent Clow had a big 2-run home run for the GreenJackets in the bottom of the first inning. With Augusta leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Bobby Olivares, who is tied for 7th in the SAL in strikeouts with 43, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the GreenJackets on top, 3-0.
"We were the better team today. Maybe that won't be the case next game, but we'll enjoy it for now," Townsend told the Augusta Bulletin.
Augusta is 4th in the Southern Division with a record of 14-17.
