Fireflies Win with Late Heroics
|
The Columbia Fireflies defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 5-4, in 10 innings in South Atlantic League action at Spirit Communications Park. Columbia pitcher Justin Meyer had a standout performance. Billy Galindo picked up the win in relief for Columbia, while Manny Custodio took the loss. The Fireflies saw their record improve to 19-15.
The decisive blow was delivered by Eric Meyers in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a 2-run double off 24-year old left-handed pitcher Manny Custodio to win the game for Columbia. The home crowd went nuts.
"Justin was cooking with gas," said Columbia manager Tony Acosta.
