Braves Prevail, 3-2, in 12 Innings
|
The Rome Braves took Hagerstown pitcher Pete Buettner's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Municipal Stadium. The final score had Rome getting past the Suns, 3-2. Buettner went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 10. The winner in relief was Wibowo Kartodirdjo. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Jose de la Paz recorded the save, his 2nd.
Rome used the timely hitting of Steve Bachleitner to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Braves on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Hagerstown manager Mark Holgate.
The win puts the Braves at 16-19, while the Suns drop to 23-12.
