Melvin Balderas never let the Crawdads get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his splitter, to pitch the RiverDogs to a win, 4-0. The RiverDogs saw their win-loss record go to 18-18. At the same time, the Crawdads fell to 23-13.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Nate Frank? The Charleston third baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put the RiverDogs on top, 1-0. For the game, Frank had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"Melvin has got a slow heartbeat," said Charleston manager Brandon Lacey. "He doesn't panic or anything."
