West Virginia overcame a superior effort from Jason Richardson to beat Greensboro, 5-2. The Greensboro pitcher threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Tyler Dunakin earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Armando Morales collected save number 1.
West Virginia got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Nick Pieper. The designated hitter stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Power ahead, 5-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"Good win for us," said Pieper. "We'll lace up our cleats and go after the next one."
West Virginia has now won 4 in a row.
