Rice Lifts Fireflies to 6-2 Win
|
The Columbia Fireflies trumped the Asheville Tourists, 6-2, at Spirit Communications Park. Columbia right fielder John Rice was terrific. He went 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Picking up the save was Matt Perez, his 1st. The second-place Fireflies now have a win-loss record of 27-17.
The Fireflies got a big at-bat from left fielder Gil Berrios. For the game, Berrios was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Columbia a 3-2 lead.
"John raked," said Columbia manager Tony Acosta.
