7-3 Win for Asheville Over Augusta
|
The Asheville Tourists weathered an outstanding game by Augusta center fielder Ricky Cruz to topple the GreenJackets, 7-3. Cruz went 4 for 5 with 4 singles. Jan Stead picked up the win with 5 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 10 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 5-3. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Kenny Kennedy.
In the bottom of the 5th, Asheville took the lead on a 2-run single by Jon LaBoube. At the time, the Tourists were trailing 3-2, but LaBoube's hit with two outs against Augusta pitcher Eric Ervin put them in front, 4-3.
"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," LaBoube told the Asheville Citizen.
The defeat makes Augusta 29-16.
