Grasshoppers Bump Off Suns, 7-4
|
The Greensboro Grasshoppers topped the Hagerstown Suns, 7-4, in South Atlantic League action at NewBridge Bank Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Greensboro pitcher Matt Crews. Crews yielded 3 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 11. His record improves to 2-2. Jon Loli closed the door for Greensboro, picking up his 8th save of the year.
Edwin Carreon had a big 2-run double for the Grasshoppers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Greensboro leading 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Casey Manning, who leads the SAL in quality starts with 7, and swatted a double to left. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Grasshoppers ahead, 5-2.
"Matt was cooking with gas," said Greensboro manager Ryan Parkins.
By defeating Hagerstown, the 5th-place Grasshoppers improved to 17-31.
