In a low-scoring contest between the Charleston RiverDogs and the Augusta GreenJackets, Troy Mansell, who is tied for 4th in the SAL in strikeouts with 73, proved to be the difference. The Charleston left-hander earned props for his performance in the 1-0 RiverDogs win. Mansell got the win, improving to 4-2. He gave up 4 hits and walked 0 over 7 innings. He allowed no runs. The 6th-place RiverDogs have a record of 24-35.

The GreenJackets had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the RiverDogs going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old center fielder Glenn Welch came to the plate. Welch hit a solo home run on a first pitch fastball from Augusta hurler Jeff Young. It was Welch's 3rd home run of the year.

"We didn't score," said losing manager Bill Mercado. "That was the problem."
