Shorebirds Squeeze Out Win in Pitching Duel
In a tension-filled contest between the Delmarva Shorebirds and the Lakewood BlueClaws, pitcher Jose Valencia was superb. The Delmarva right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the SAL with a 2.09 ERA, spearheaded his team's 1-0 win. Reliever Brian Gilmer picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Alexis Romero took the loss. Carlos Lucero recorded his 3rd save for Delmarva.

Dan Pavlik chipped in a solo home run for Delmarva in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the catcher had 2 hits in 2 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.

"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Valencia. "Successful pitchers do it."
