Rome Loses, 3-1, in 10
|
The Asheville Tourists faced a tough opponent in Rome pitcher Alex Velazquez, but still scratched out a win at State Mutual Stadium by a final score of 3-1 in 10 innings. Velazquez went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Bill De Angelis claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3.2 innings. His record stands at 5-5. The loss makes Rome 34-29.
George Nelson provided a timely hit. The Asheville first baseman delivered a run-scoring triple in the top of the tenth inning to put the Tourists on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
Afterward, Tourists manager Jarrod Dryman was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
