The Kannapolis Intimidators got a stellar performance from pitcher Derek Upchurch, who handcuffed the West Virginia offense en route to a win, 8-1, at Appalachian Power Park. Kannapolis reliever Derek Upchurch got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Dave Felshaw was tagged with the loss. Kannapolis has an impressive 52-12 record.

Kannapolis relied on the hitting of Justin McWilliams to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Intimidators on top, 8-1. For the game, McWilliams had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Kannapolis manager B.J. Sabol.
