Fireflies Whack Tourists, 15-0
|
The Columbia Fireflies cut down the Asheville Tourists by the score of 15-0, with the largest share of the credit going to catcher Thomas Laviosa. Laviosa went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 6 for the Fireflies. Edwin Maldonado Jr. got the win, improving to 8-4. He pitched 8.2 innings, giving up 3 hits and no runs, while striking out 6 and walking 1. At 45-20, the Fireflies are currently first in the Southern Division.
With Columbia leading 11-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Laviosa came up to bat against Asheville pitcher Danny Navares. Laviosa hit a fastball to right for a bases-clearing double. His 15th double of the season put the Fireflies on top, 14-0.
Asheville manager Jarrod Dryman called the blowout loss "just a poor performance, period."
