Today was Mel Cruz's turn in the rotation for the Kannapolis Intimidators and he made the most of it, shutting out the Delmarva Shorebirds on 5 hits.

The 25-year-old left-hander led the Intimidators to an easy 9-0 victory, allowing 3 walks and tallying 7 strikeouts.

"I hope we miss him next time," Delmarva manager Nick Lombardi said. "Cruz certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
