The bats were silent much of the day at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. But Gene Wilcox conjured up just enough offense to carry the Shorebirds past the Greensboro Grasshoppers, 3-0. Wilcox threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. The winning pitcher was Wilcox, now 4-4. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 10. The save was credited to Aaron Green, his 1st.

Delmarva shortstop Daniel Jividen contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 15th hit of the season and put the Shorebirds ahead, 2-0.

"Everyone's kind of edgy right now," said losing manager Bill Taylor, "but nothing a couple of wins wouldn't cure."

The losing skid has reached 8 games for Greensboro.
