The 4-3 Augusta win over Columbia was due in large part to Jeff Reed. The GreenJackets first baseman went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Augusta reliever Jules Hickman was the winner. His record is now 5-8. The losing pitcher was Eli Adams. The GreenJackets now own a record of 47-27.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Augusta right fielder Ted Voeltner, facing Pete Nesby, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the GreenJackets the 4-3 win.

"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Reed said in his postgame press conference.
