Asheville Loses, 3-1, in 10
The Charleston RiverDogs in 10 innings beat the Asheville Tourists, 3-1, at McCormick Field. Starting pitcher Rafael Algniz was a major factor, holding his opponents in check all game. Melvin Balderas recorded the save, his 1st. At 37-37, Charleston is in third place in the Southern Division.

Charleston used a timely hit from Justin Diaz to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the tenth inning to put the RiverDogs ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

During his postgame press conference, RiverDogs manager Brandon Lacey told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
