Fireflies Snatch Late Win
|
The Fireflies grabbed a win, 6-4, at CMC-NorthEast Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Kannapolis pitcher Orlando Rocha. Rocha went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. The save was credited to Mike McGuire, his 1st. The win elevated the Fireflies to 42-35.
Columbia used the timely hitting of John Peterson to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Fireflies on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Peterson told the Columbia Daily News.
