The Columbia Fireflies picked up a win at Spirit Communications Park, dropping the Asheville Tourists, 4-3. Mike Figueroa was the difference-maker. Figueroa yielded 3 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 1-5. Victor Mendez collected his 1st save.

The Tourists had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Fireflies going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old catcher Phil Ege came to the plate. Ege hit a run-scoring double on a 1-2 fastball from Asheville hurler Tony Cotto. It was Ege's 14th double of the year.

Columbia manager Tony Acosta praised his team's "businesslike approach."

At 28-53, the Fireflies are currently last in the Southern Division.
