5-1 Drive Win over Fireflies Evens Season Record
|
Greenville rode a fine outing from starter Chad Cheney to victory over the Columbia Fireflies at Fluor Field at the West End. The final score was 5-1. Cheney, now 1-1, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing no runs. The Drive improved to 41-41.
The Drive got a big at-bat from second baseman Mark Bourassa. For the game, Bourassa was 1-3 with a double and a walk. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 17th double of the season gave Greenville a 1-0 lead.
In postgame comments to the Greenville Observer, Cheney said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
