Pointer on a Rampage, Hits for Cycle
|
In an outing that will go down in the annals of league history, Greensboro center fielder Gabe Pointer hit for the cycle, as the Grasshoppers marched to victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds, 7-2.
Pointer collected 4 hits in 5 at-bats, including 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run. He added 4 runs batted in and 2 runs scored to help Greensboro take the NewBridge Bank Park contest.
"It was the last thing on my mind, really," Pointer said. "I'm out there trying to get a blooper or a walk or whatever might help the team. Even if I had wanted to, hitting for the cycle is probably as much about luck as about skill anyway."
Gabe Pointer flied out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Moises Flores in the 5th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
Looking at his stats this year, Pointer has compiled a .227 batting average, while hitting 9 home runs and driving in 29 runs. He has played in 77 games and scored 39 runs.
