Intimidators Lose Versus West Virginia, 2-1
|
Appalachian Power Park was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
The Power faced a stiff challenge from Kannapolis pitcher John Clark, but persevered to claim a win at Appalachian Power Park. The final score was 2-1. Clark went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner in relief was Pat Maye. He is now 10-3. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. Randy Owen earned his 27th save, after closing out the game.
The Power got a big at-bat from right fielder Fred Trent. For the game, Trent was 1 for 4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave West Virginia a 2-1 lead.
West Virginia manager Luis Zamora commended his team for "bagging a nice win."
With the win, West Virginia raised its record to 51-36.
