Drive Earn Late Win
|
The Greenville Drive in 10 innings beat the Asheville Tourists, 1-0, at Fluor Field at the West End. Starting pitcher Pat Gleason was a major factor, holding his opponents in check all game. Greenville reliever Jake Brummett picked up the win, upping his record to 4-2. Freddie Forshee took the loss. Greenville is now 50-39.
Up to bat in the bottom of the tenth, 22-year old right fielder Jesse Johnson had a chance to be the hero. Asheville pitcher Freddie Forshee wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Johnson hit a sacrifice fly. The Drive had themselves a thrilling win.
"To become 'battle-tested,'" said Gleason, "you need to compete in this kind of contest."
