Shorebirds Score Late to Upend Grasshoppers, 3-1
|
The performance of Mario Marmol proved critical in helping Delmarva beat Greensboro, 3-1. The Shorebirds second baseman was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Steve Oliver snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 2.2 innings. He's now 3-1 on the season. The 5th-place Shorebirds go to 39-54.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Delmarva trailing 1-0, Marmol jumped on a changeup from 24-year old left-handed pitcher Manny Custodio and hit a 3-run home run to right. With one swing, the Shorebirds had a walk-off win.
"This place was rockin'," said Marmol.
