Tony Capurro never let Greenville get something going. The Lakewood right-hander commanded his cutter in pitching the BlueClaws to a 4-1 win. Manny Pena notched his 3rd save in 4 chances. With the win, Lakewood has a record of 39-54. Greenville falls to 38-55.
Jim Loftin had a big solo home run for the BlueClaws in the bottom of the third inning. With Lakewood leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Tyler Mullins, who is tied for 7th in the SAL with a 1.00 WHIP, and swatted a home run to center. It was his 9th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the BlueClaws ahead, 2-0.
Loftin called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
